Caving
The Sierra de las Nieves lies in a large area of karst containing numerous caves and potholes including Sima GESM with a depth of 1101m. The Hundidero–Gato system is an hours drive away which provides a sporting 4½km through trip for experienced cavers.
An experience not to be missed is the showcave “Cueva de la Pileta” near Benaojan which contains numerous paleolithic cave paintings. Another showcave is the “cueva de Tesoro” at Rincon de la Victoria near Malaga which is believed to be a prehistoric sanctuary of the Moon Goddess Noctiluca.

Due to the uniquness of the landscape a wide variety of plants, animals and birds can be seen, including cabra montes (mountain goats), fallow deer (gamo), wild cats, wild boar, Quejigo - dyer's oak, an Asiatic tree which yields a dye.
Bird Watching
The varied terrain provides a suitable habitat for a wide variety of birds which include raptors (golden eagles, Bonelli’s eagle, griffon vultures), hoopoes, wheatears, oriol, warblers, shrikes, rock thrushes, choughs, to name but a few.
Horse Riding
An ideal way to explore the surrounding countryside is on horseback. There are local stables with well trained horses who cater for all abilities. Riding can be arranged through a local English speaking contact who will also act as your guide, details are provided in the house or through contacting ourselves before departure. To avoid disappointment please try to give as much notice as possible. The cost is 15 Euros per hour.
