Yunquera is a typically Andalucian white village located on the edge of Sierra de las Neives national park.  Where ever you go in the village there are spectacular views of the mountains. The area is tranquil and relaxing and is the place to be in order to experience the traditional Spanish way of life.
Don Serrano (on the left, just after you enter the village) is a steak house which specialises in meats cooked in a wood fired oven, which you order by weight.
Bar Quini (On the right, at the traffic lights, at the top of the village) is popular with locals for breakfast and lunch, with excellent snacks as well as more substantial fare. For breakfast try the tostada de jamon y queso, a toasted serrano ham and manchego cheese sandwich. If you want to see the menu ask for “la carta.”
The Asencio (in the centre of town) has good home cooked traditional Spanish food, ask for the ‘menu de la casa’ which is excellent value at approx 12 Euros for 3 courses.
The Spanish eat late, lunch is invariably at 2pm and dinner any time after 9pm, most of the bars are fairly quiet before this time.
Other delicious traditional dishes to try are the manchego (sheep’s cheese), Serrano ham, Pinchitos (pork kebabs), crème catalana  (caramel flan) and arroz con leche (creamy rice pudding with cinnamon served cold), to drink - the local wines are superb, many of the locals drink tinto de verano at lunch which is a long drink of red wine and a type of lemonade, very refreshing and not too alcoholic or ask for a cola cao (a really nice hot chocolate drink, pronounced cola cow).
The village is picturesque and contains many narrow winding streets that are a relic of its Moorish heritage. Yunquera is situated on a natural spring and throughout the village are drinking fountains replenished by this spring water. It is a joy to explore and discover the numerous local stores and bars often hidden behind unsigned doors.
In the evening the village bars are popular and some stay open until well into the early hours of the morning. There are several bar / restaurants, with good food and friendly service, the most notable of which are Restaurante Enara, Bar Quini, Don Serrano and the Asencio.
Restaurante Enara is undoubtedly the best restaurant in the village and is situated on the right hand side of the road immediately upon entering the village from the Alozaina direction (just after La Cabana). It serves tapas or more substantial main meals as well as delicious home made deserts of a quality worthy of a top restaurant.

A few minutes walk from the house there is a public swimming pool which is open during the summer months. It is set in landscaped gardens and is a ideal place to spend a lazy day with a picnic taking an occasional dip to cool down. There are clean changing rooms and a refreshment kiosk.
